Aldfrith, the name of a king of Northumbria (a mediaeval kingdom of the Angles) who ruled between 685â704/705, borrows his name to the new project of Daniel Disneycrusher (aka Daniel Death), that comprises an EP with two tracks of dark ambient music inspired by Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (and his countless projects), Karjalan Sissit, Horchata (mainly from the album ISOLATED HOUSE), Samsa, Maja Ratke older experimental pathfinders like Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Edgard Varèse and newer names like Arktau Eos, Opium Warlords and Blitzkrieg Baby.
However, those are just nominal influences, since Daniel opted in not hearing such artists during the time he was creating From Northumbria to Mehrgarh, in order to seize the moment of alacrity, creating the layers of the songs often in just one take, rapidly editing, and not focusing in fancy editing.
Moreover, Aldfrith is the creation of the artiste in his Dämmerung, questioning what is true art and what is not. What can be done in the field of music that still wasnât been done. Trying to empathically understand why such a hive of so-called musicians perceive themselves as being âavant-gardeâ in this internet era where anyone in anywhere can produce stuff in such a light speed way that the ouvre is let to one to draw the line if itâs good or if isnât. The whole point came from one question: whatâs the point? While we still have truly innovative music being created, Daniel Death believes thatâs not everyday that a new Frank Zappa or a new Sun-Rá comes out of the blue to leave their imprint in the history of music.
Daniel himself says: âMore than a pretentious masterpiece with its subsequent braggadocio, Aldfrith is a protest, an assessment, a Dadaistic and Nihilistic call for those who are entangled in this new world order of musical scheme, trying to find something new and relevant to hear. Aldfrith WAS NOT created to fill in this gap, but to make you questioning if youâre in the right path. Call it art or just another piece of crap. I donât careâ
Disclaimer: no instruments were used on From Northumbria to Mehrgarh, just a myriad of organic frequencies to create the whole opus.
